How do we use this equation to get the phases of a signals?

motoole2

The phases are captured in $F(k)$. This is because $F(k) = a(k) e^{j \phi(k)}$ is a complex number. In the slides that follow, we visualize the amplitude of the signal $|F(k)| = a(k)$ and visualize the phase of the signal $\arg(F(k)) = \phi(k)$.
